So far I’ve shared friends and faves and I’ll continue to do that. I won’t always share one genre or style but I can share enough DJ mixes to keep you busy until the end of existence.

I’ve tried to throw in a few things that aren’t just DJ mixes. I don’t just listen to dance music and I’m quite possibly a better guitarist (sometimes drummer when I practice) than electronic music. But I mostly listen to electronic music. It feels to me that way classical is describe to feel to some people.

I do give a lot of power to dance music. It did save me and I can say that the last ten years have been crucial to my growth as a human. Certain creative practices are part of who I am now.

But before we that dreaded paywall, I’ll share something that’s not a DJ set. This is amazing and you should definitely check them out.

Actually, I don’t do it.

The easiest way to get a smartass answer out of me is to ask, “What’s the best…” anything.

Best DJ?
Best synth?
Best DAW?
Best mixer?
Best record?
Best way to write?
Best way to start?

It always depends.

What works for you?
What do you have?
What do you like?
What are you trying to make?
What room are you in?
What mood are you trying to survive?

There is rarely one answer. Usually, there’s a tool, a moment, a taste, a problem, and a person trying to get something out of their own head before it evaporates.

But if I had to name one DJ who always inspires me, it would be Nina Kraviz.

Nina does something to my inspirational bones that I don’t fully know how to explain. I can put on one of her sets when I feel flat, tired, stuck, or creatively dead behind the eyes, and within minutes something starts moving again.

The engine remembers it’s an engine.

It would take more than a quick post to properly talk about her story, but she’s one of the legends of techno and has been a permanent part of the scene for years. Her sound, presence, catalog, weirdness, taste, and ability to stay unmistakably herself all matter to me.

Yes, I love Jeff Mills.
Yes, I respect the founders and pioneers.
Yes, there is space for everyone.
Yes, techno history matters.

If I lonely listen to the pioneers, I might miss that next persons that changes my life.

Don’t turn admiration into a purity contest. Don’t show up acting like celebrating one artist means erasing another. That’s boring. That’s lazy. That’s how people tell on themselves quickly.

Everyone deserves applause for what they do in their own way.

Dudes, do you realize this is usually how women, queer DJs, and other marginalized artists get erased from the conversation?
